The future of Pathway of Madison County, a housing facility for troubled girls, hangs in the balance.
Owens Cross Roads officials are deciding whether to shut it down following Friday's public hearing.
City Clerk Christie Easton testified that the city recorded 11 safety incidents at the facility between June 2024 and January 2025. These included frequent runaways and a riot in September .
Easton said the recommendation to close the facility stemmed from the several incidents and non-compliance with city ordinances.
Pathway's legal team argued that the facility provides crucial care for girls suffering from abuse, trauma, and neglect. They emphasized that runaways are a common occurrence in their line of work due to the instability the children face.
