AUDUBON – The drought is over.
The Audubon High School softball team captured its first South Jersey title in two decades with a 9-5 victory over defending sectional champion Haddon Township in the Group 1 game on Friday.
The Green Wave (19-7) have played with the strength of a tsunami in recent weeks, rattling off 12 straight victories since May 8.
Audubon will look to end an even longer dry spell as the team will look to win the program’s first state title since 1977 when it takes the diamond again next week.
The squad will host Central Jersey champion Bound Brook (17-11), which upset top-seeded Roselle Park in its sectional final, in Tuesday’s state semifinal round. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
