A controversial proposal to let Wyomingites put their landowner hunting tags up for sale on the open market might come back before the Wyoming Legislature during its 2026 session.

Dave True of Casper brought the proposal before the Legislature’s Travel, Recreation, Wildlife and Cultural Resources Committee on Friday.

He suggested landowners with deeded properties of 2,000 or more acres be allowed to sell their tags on the open market.

Each year, special Wyoming governors’ and commissioners’ tags are auctioned off, frequently fetching $20,000 or more each.

Many believe that landowner tags could fetch similar prices on the open market.
