PECULIAR, Mo. (KCTV) - Those who plan to host yard sales over the weekend have been warned to keep an eye out for counterfeit currency.

The City of Peculiar announced on Friday afternoon, June 6, that law enforcement officials in surrounding communities have discovered counterfeit bills being used for payment at local garage sales.

The Greenwood Police Department reported earlier in the day that a fake $20 bill had been found. Those who do receive counterfeit currency should not confront the individual who gave it to them. Instead, obtain a good description of the person and their vehicle before contacting law enforcement.

Investigators noted that the individuals responsible seem to be aware of what they are doing. The fake bills can be spotted easily as the edges are not evenly cut
