HARLAN CO., Ky. (WYMT) - The smell of poke sallet and Appalachia traditions filled the air in Harlan County.

The Poke Sallet Festival includes live music, carnival rides, pageants and of course, poke sallet.

Folks in Harlan say it is more than just a festival, but it is part of the history of Kentucky and more specifically, Harlan County.

“I think that there’s something very special about the people from Appalachia and the people from the mountains. I think that when we get together and celebrate and talk about our heritage and celebrate our heritage, we come together and we just have a really good time,” said Brandon Pennington, Executive Director of Harlan County Tourism.
