RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) -- Extreme heat can be deadly, but the threat of warmer weather isn't stopping events across the Triangle this weekend.

Kari Gould says the heat isn't keeping her away from Pride events this year.

"I am ensuring I hydrate and put on sunscreen," she said.

She says that several years ago, she dimmed her light to hide her truth.

"I was very introverted, so I didn't like to go to any events," said Gould.

That was until she met a lesbian couple a few years ago, who helped her come out and embrace her pride.

"I got to hang out with them, see how their world was, and to see that it's safe and a person who feels comfortable with themselves," she said.

As many people head out this weekend, EMT crews at Priority Care Ambulance stress the importance of preparation.
