MILFORD, Ohio (WKRC) — The Ellis family was grappling with the aftermath of a devastating fire that tore through their Milford home on Tuesday evening, leaving them without their beloved pets and their residence severely damaged.

Michelle and Gordon Ellis, along with their three children and nephew, were not at home when the blaze erupted. Upon discovering the fire, Gordon Ellis attempted to rescue their pets.

"I can't word it any better. It's an absolute nightmare," he said. "We just couldn't get in there. I could see my one dog, the 15-year-old, lying, trying to crawl upstairs, I just couldn't get to her."

Tragically, two dogs and one cat perished in the fire.
