SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Mohonasen Central School District is joining several other districts and using BusPatrol to launch a school bus stop arm photo enforcement program. The initiative is focused on student safety by holding drivers accountable for illegally passing a stopped school bus.

A 30-day warning period began on June 2. Violators will receive a warning in the mail but won't face any financial penalties. Enforcement will begin on July 1 with the start of summer programming and continuing into the 2025-26 school year.

The state requires drivers stop at least 20 feet away from a stopped school bus with its red lights flashing and stop arm deployed. Every incident is reviewed by law enforcement before a violation notice is issued.
