GASTONIA, N.C. -- The Ghost Peppers were too hot for Charleston on Friday night.

Gastonia scored 10 runs in the first four innings to rip the Dirty Birds 15-4 in an Atlantic League series opener at CaroMont Health Park.

Jack Reinheimer, Justin Wylie and Kevin Watson Jr. each had three of the Ghost Peppers’ 16 hits. Wylie, Narciso Crook and Watson all homered and Reinheimer doubled twice.

Watson knocked in five runs, Wylie drove in three and Dalton Guthrie and Crook plated two apiece.

Crook, Watson and Eric De La Rosa tallied three runs each for Gastonia (14-23). Wylie and Reinheimer each scored twice.

Justus Sheffield worked six scoreless innings to get the win, scattering five hits and issuing no walks. He fanned five.
