PHOENIX — In June, KTAR News 92.3 FM’s Outspoken with Bruce and Gaydos’ Pay Tribute to a Teacher award went to Kelly Melrose, a Phoenix teacher.
Melrose teaches geometry at Camelback High School, which is near 26th Street and Campbell Avenue.
“I think I just finished year 29,” Melrose told KTAR News 92.3 FM’s Outspoken with Bruce and Gaydos on Friday. “I started late, actually.”
In addition to teaching students how to crunch numbers, she also teaches them how to swing softball bats and knock balls out of the park. She coaches around 50 students each year.
“I was a two-time state champion at Greenway High School and then I played for the legendary Mike Candrea and I won a national championship when I was a freshman,” Melrose said.
