SCIOTO COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) - The Notre Dame High School softball team won its first ever state championship.

“Sticking my head out the window and waving at everyone, it made me feel really special,” Maddie Entler said.

Portsmouth Police and the Fire Department escorted the team back home on Friday to streets full of fans and family.

“It’s very heartwarming when you come back,” Head Coach Shad Ford said.

Junior softball player Alayla Soard said, “The fireworks and everything, that was a surprise.”

Players and coaches said they’re celebrating a little more on Friday.

The Lady Titans won the school’s first state championship in nearly 60 years.

Entler said, “I’ll just always see my name on that wall and I’ll be so proud.”
