Gov. Mike Braun this week implied he was open to debate on whether Indiana should end the death penalty, after telling reporters the state had run out of the drug used in two recent executions.

“We’ve got to address the broad issue of, what are other methods, the discussion of capital punishment in general, and then something that costs, I think, $300,000 a pop that has a 90-day shelf life, I’m not going to be for putting it on the shelf and letting them expire,” the governor said Tuesday. “There are legislators that wonder if it’s still relevant. I’m going to listen to them, the courts and the broader discussion in general.”
