What’s next for Milford teen Marcelo Gomes da Silva?

MILFORD — Six days after federal immigration officials detained Milford High School student Marcelo Gomes da Silva on his way to volleyball practice, an immigration judge ordered his release Thursday and Gomes was able to reunite with his family and friends in an emotional scene.

“Viva Marcelo!” a family member shouted as dozens of others cried and applauded shortly after Gomes arrived at the family home in Milford. Tears ran down his mother’s face as she watched through her kitchen window as the car pulled up to their house. His mother, Daiane Gomes Pereira, then walked outside and hugged her son for the first time since he was detained on Saturday .
