A diversion route has been issued for M6 drivers ahead of closures around the motorway this weekend.

A slip road near Birmingham Airport will be closed this weekend ahead of an HS2 viaduct operation.

Contractors will spend this Saturday and Sunday sliding the first part of the giant structure over the motorway after constructing it at the side of the carriageway first.

The parallel viaducts will eventually carry HS2 trains over the M6 near Birmingham Airport and a series of weekend closures are expected.

The next step is a "hugely complex process" say HS2 bosses, resulting in a permanent change to the West Midlands landscape.
