Regarding Wednesday’s phone call between Russian leader Vladimir Putin and President Donald Trump on Ukraine’s recent drone attacks and the damage they have caused (“ It might be better to let Ukraine and Russia ‘fight for a while,’ ” June 6), Putin reportedly advised Trump that he will have to respond.

If Putin had agreed to the 30-day immediate cease-fire without preconditions that was jointly proposed, Ukraine’s drone attack might never had occurred. The resulting damage from Ukraine’s drone attack is the direct result of Putin’s poor decisions.

It would be very refreshing to see our president and his Ukraine envoy treat Ukraine and Russia equally with the respect they both deserve. Ukraine estimates the damage from the drone attacks in Russia was in the neighborhood of $7 billio
