CLEVELAND, Ohio -- A review board will finally hear the case against a Cleveland police officer who crashed into another car while driving Mayor Justin Bibb last year.
Cleveland’s Civilian Police Review Board is scheduled Tuesday to hear the case against Demetrius Woods, Bibb’s driver and a 24-year veteran of the department.
On June 13, 2024, Woods was driving Bibb in an unmarked SUV when he flashed the vehicle’s emergency lights and drove through a red light at the intersection of Superior Avenue and East 12th Street at roughly 20 miles per hour.
Woods’ SUV crashed into the van of another driver, Paul Scanlon, 77, of Parma Heights, who had the green light.
Though nobody was injured, Scanlon’s work van was totaled.
As of April, Woods remains Bibb’s driver.
