Residents at the iconic Edinburgh 'banana flats' at Cables Wynd were evacuated after a large fire broke out in a top floor.

The incident took place around 10.49pm on Friday (June 6) at Cables Wynd House, which was made famous by its appearance in the 1996 film Trainspotting.

Residents were evacuated and nine appliances battled the blaze for hours departing at 7.00am on June 7, about eight hours after arriving on the scene.

Footage from the incident shows flames pouring from the window of a flat near the top of the building. Smoke can be seen billowing into the air.

A resident of Cables Wynd House told Edinburgh Live: "It was bad. I was a scared if someone was in the flat and I thought we were going to have to leave the building in case it started spreading more.
