800 workers at Glasgow Airport are heading towards summer strike action, according to Unite the Union.

The union is locked in disputes with five companies at the airport, and today (June 7) announced workers will be balloted on strike action over the next two weeks after “no successful resolution” was reached in talks with the firms.

Unite said the strikes would “ground planes and passengers” in the middle of July, scuppering holiday plans for many during the busy summer season. Five companies are involved in the labour disputes at the airport.

The union said 120 workers employed by Glasgow Airport Limited have rejected a basic 3.6 per cent pay increase. The workers include airport ambassadors, airside support officers, engineers and managers.
