Drivers who flash their headlights at others in a common act of solidarity could be fined £1,000 - motoring experts have warned. Many motorists flash their headlights as a courteous gesture to other drivers or to alert them to potential hazards. However, this action carries risks, as it can be perceived as "obstructing" a police officer's duties if headlights are flashed to warn of an impending speed camera.
If caught, drivers may face fines ranging from £30 to £1,000. Halfords explains: "If you're caught flashing your headlights to passing drivers to warn them about an upcoming speed trap, you could find yourself in a spot of bother.
"While to some, it's an act of goodwill, the law sees it as obstructing an officer's duty. Being caught can cost you between £30 and £1,000."
