A person who had been stuck by a vehicle was found unresponsive in the street early Saturday and rushed to the hospital, police said.

The person suffered serious injuries and the vehicle fled the scene, according to Capt. Aaron Vafiades of the West Hartford Police Department.

Police officers went to the 200 block of South Main Street just after 2 a.m. after receiving a report of the injured person; a passerby had located the pedestrian in the roadway and called 911, police said.

Police said the officers found evidence of a motor vehicle accident, but the “offending vehicle” was not on scene.

The pedestrian, whom police did not identify, was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries, police said.
