NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — A pedestrian in a wheelchair has died after being hit by a car early Saturday morning in New Haven, says police.
The pedestrian, a 50-year-old male from New Haven, left Charles Street and began traveling south in the southbound lane on Dixwell Avenue while seated in a wheelchair.
Police say the pedestrian was near the centerline when a vehicle, traveling in the same direction, struck him.
First responders rendered aid to the victim who was later pronounced deceased at Yale-New Haven Hospital. His identity has not been released as police work to contact his family.
The vehicle operator remained on the scene.
