JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) -- A major leak was detected on a water main in north Jefferson County on Saturday morning.
According to Birmingham Water Works, it received a call around 5 a.m. about a leak in the 1500 block of Brookside Coalburg Road, which is near Mount Olive. The leak caused the road to close.
When BWW crews arrived around an hour later, they found a leak on a 60-inch raw water main that takes water from an intake near Smith Lake to the Western Filter Plant. Though crews were evaluating repair options Saturday morning, people did not experience water service interruption because of the leak.
The BWW stated it notified the Jefferson County Emergency Management Agency about the break. The county's roads and transportation department arrived in the area to direct traffic.
