OMAHA, Neb. —

Baseball, hot dogs, and hamburgers, it was a slice of Americana at Benson's ballpark on Friday with a side of public planning.

Engineers and project managers behind the field's revitalization plan attended a picnic.

They were there to answer any questions about the planned renovations at the park.

The little league is planning to start the project in July.

They said it's needed after flash floods caused about $100,000 in damages about three years ago.

Organizers of the league said the community rallied around them to get the donations, and they're now hoping to give back to the players.

"Every kid deserves to play ball in the summer. It's kind of a rite of passage, in my view," said Josh Wendell.
