Marin County supervisors are poised to make appointments to a new civilian oversight commission that will oversee the sheriff’s office.

Nine people are expected to be appointed. Following private interviews, the supervisors selected their five nominees. The supervisors will select the remaining four at-large commissioners from nine nominees after conducting interviews on Tuesday. The county received 67 applications.

The supervisors approved an ordinance establishing the commission, and the hiring of an inspector general to assist it, in late 2024. Assembly Bill 1185, signed into law by Gov. Gavin Newsom in 2020, gives county supervisors the authority to establish oversight boards and appoint inspectors general to assist them in their supervision of sheriffs.
