Forecasters have extended a weather warning as Kent braces for more than half a month’s rainfall over the coming hours.

Heavy showers and thunderstorms are set to roll in today (Saturday), with some places predicted to see up to 40mm of rain, with a risk of lightning and hail too.

Yesterday, the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning covering all of Kent, which came into force at 9am and has been extended to 9pm.

Forecasters say lightning, hail and strong, gusty winds could present additional hazards.

Figures show 55.4mm of rain fell in June last year and 54.8mm the year before.

A statement from the Met Office said: “Frequent heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected for much of Saturday before fading from the west during the mid to late afternoon.
