QUINCY (WGEM) - Work has started for the new entrance to Quincy’s History Museum on the Square.

The $3 million project will be adding a ground level entrance, an ADA elevator that will go to all levels and an ADA bathroom on the second floor.

“The most important thing that’s been lacking from the building has been a ground entrance, because right now, it’s just the entrance off the square, you go up those limestone steps, it’s really difficult, heavy door at the top,” said Rob Mellon, the Historical Society of Quincy and Adams County Executive Director. “Now it’s going to be a ground entrance, there will be an elevator there that will go to all levels including the basement, there will be some ADA bathrooms as well on the second floor, right now there’s no bathrooms on the second floor.”
