A bull that was spotted on the loose in Birmingham city centre has been given a new home - and a new name.

The stray, thought to have escaped from an abattoir, was safely contained by city council staff on Friday after being spotted by startled passers-by in New Bond Street, Digbeth, shortly before 9.30am.

The council said the “beautiful albeit misplaced” creature, thought to be two years old, was checked over by an animal welfare team and then transferred to the care of West Midlands Police.

But nobody came forward to claim him, so an animal sanctuary in Norfolk said it volunteered to take him in.

It has also named the bull Liam.
