Terry Bradshaw’s No. 12 remains unofficially retired with the Steelers .
The team recently announced that newly-signed quarterback Aaron Rodgers will be wearing No. 8 in the black and gold, rather than the No. 12 he had during his 18 years with the Green Bay Packers .
It’s hardly a surprise — the Steelers were never expected to put Bradshaw’s number back in circulation ( the Pittsburgh great doesn’t seem to be fan of Rodgers, either ), and Rodgers wore No. 8 during his time with the New York Jets to avoid using Joe Namath’s old number.
Namath said he’d let Rodgers wear his retired No. 12 , but Rodgers opted to wear No. 8, which is also what he wore during his collegiate career at Cal.
The No. 8 on the Steelers was previously worn by current punter Corliss Waitman; it’s unclear
