NEW BRITAIN – When Taylor Jackson won the State Open long jump title Saturday, she was a little surprised.
Jackson, a Bloomfield High senior, jumped a half-inch further than her teammate Vanessa Agyemang to win the event with a jump of 18 feet, 5 1/2 inches. Bloomfield had a 1-2-4 finish with April Nathaniel coming in fourth and went 1-2 in the 100 and 300 hurdles.
That, combined with Jackson’s third place in the high jump, and Payton Sirdine’s third place in the shot and second in the discus, gave Bloomfield its third straight State Open girls track title at Willow Brook Park. The Warhawks scored 88 points; runner-up Glastonbury had 60.
The boys meet was suspended with one event to go – four boys were still competing in the high jump – when it started thundering and raining very hard
