BUFFALO, N.Y. — A Rochester Americans Hall of Famer and Calder Cup champion, Scott Metcalfe, died on Saturday morning. He was 58.

The Amerks announced Metcalfe's death on the team's website .

"It’s a terribly sad day for the organization," former teammate and Hall of Famer Jody Gage said in the Amerks announcement. "Scott had this larger-than-life personality about him, and it resonated with Amerks fans all over Rochester. It’s easy to see why he was such a fan favorite."

Metcalfe played a total of nine seasons in Rochester, first from 1987 to 1991, then from 1993 to 1998. The Amerks said he was a fan favorite " due to his tenacious play and endless devotion to the community."

The Edmonton Oilers originally drafted Metcalfe in the first round of the 1985 draft. He was traded to the
