An envelope containing an “unknown substance” was sent to and opened by the president of Central Connecticut State University , she said in an email to staff and students that was shared with the media late Saturday.

CCSU President Zulma Toro said she was not injured and the incident remains under investigation by the Connecticut State Police . The envelope, which had no return address, was sent to her home, she said.

Further, Toro, noting she is “OK. I am not physically hurt,” wrote that the “cruel incident” did not weaken her “resolve to be a leader for our university.”

Toro said she called authorities, and “they responded immediately.”

“I received an envelope addressed to me that had no return address,” she wrote. “I opened it and an unknown substance was released.”
