MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - Guns to Gardens is working to end gun violence by providing a space for people to repurpose their firearms.

Organizers travel to different churches turning old firearms into garden tools. They say the experience is healing for those impacted by gun violence.

The group saw the highest number of surrendered firearms in one day at First United Methodist Church in Madison on Saturday.

“We’ve had anything from some at least six to 21,” Presbyterian Minister Scott Marrese-Wheeler said. “But someone said today is the greatest number in the years we’ve been doing this and I think getting the word out helps do that and like Jeff said its a healing thing.”

Organizers are hoping to expand to rural communities in Southern Wisconsin.
