WINONA, Texas — Challenger Luis Hernandez defeated Winona ISD Board President Randy Hawkins in the second election over the Place 3 trustee seat.
According to election results released Saturday, Hernandez received 244 votes to Hawkins' 181 votes during the June 7 election that was called following a tie in last month's race.
For the May 3 election, Hawkins, who serves as board president, and Hernandez both received 137 votes. After that tie, the candidates had a chance to withdraw, but neither wanted to. A recount led to another tie.
So Winona ISD approved calling for a second election to determine the winner, setting the race for June.
