When she was a freshman, Point Loma High School third baseman Nanako Schroth struggled with the Pointers’ lack of success. She was playing on a winning club team, and considered playing there for the rest of her high school career.
“I was ready to quit almost every day; I couldn’t take it,” said Schroth, one of six graduating seniors for the Pointers who suffered through a 7-21 season as freshman. “It was culture shock. But now I’m so glad I stuck it out.”
Saturday afternoon, Schroth ended her senior year as SoCal Regional champion. The Pointers topped South Gate Legacy High School 4-1 in the Division 3 final at Correia Middle School.
