ASOTIN COUNTY, Wash. – Asotin County Fire District 1 responded to multiple grass fires on Saturday evening along River Road, east of Redwolf Bridge.

The fires were started when a truck, hauling a trailer, emitted sparks into the dry grass along State Highway 128, according to authorities. These sparks ignited three separate fires within a short distance.

Nez Perce County Sheriff’s deputies stopped the vehicle in Idaho, preventing additional fires from starting.

Noel Hardin, Asotin County Fire District 1 Chief, highlighted the fortunate circumstance that the fires ignited on the south side of the highway. Hardin claimed that if they’d started on the opposite side, the fires could have made a rapid climb up the hillside.
