It was a special year for high school softball in the Wiregrass with four state championship teams and a state runner-up plus several other clubs that posted 30-plus win seasons.
The Alabama Sports Writers Association recognized the talent as five area players earned top awards and four coaches received coach of the year honors in voting by the ASWA Prep Committee, which released its softball all-state teams Saturday morning.
Players and coaches of state champions highlighted the postseason honors, receiving seven of the nine top awards.
Class 1A state champion Kinston racked up, earning three of the four major state awards in its classification with Allyx Williamson the Class 1A Player of the Year, Lilli Sumblin the Class 1A Pitcher of the Year and Andy Norris the 1A Coach of the year.
