HORN LAKE, Miss. - The city of Horn Lake elected its first Black mayor.
Commissioner Jimmy Stokes narrowly defeated Republican Danny Klein in the June 3 election, marking a Democratic victory in every position during the citywide election.
Stokes' campaign lead called the all-Democratic ticket a "stunning shift of political momentum," giving Democrats six of the eight alderman seats in Horn Lake.
"This groundbreaking victory marks a transformative step forward for the
community and sets the stage for a bold new chapter in Horn Lake’s leadership," Stokes' team said.
Stokes ran for mayor as the City Planning Commissioner for Ward 5. Along with his newly acquired title of mayor, Stokes is the minister of Northeast Side Church of Christ in Bartlett and the CEO and director of Redemption 1
