Baseball’s a funny game. The Yankees didn’t do much right yesterday and they still scored seven runs with fans understandably wishing they had beaten the Red Sox . I think it’d be fair to say that the Yankees who played well were Austin Wells, DJ LeMahieu, Yerry De los Santos, and Mark Leiter Jr. All four played really well too, and that’s why the game was close. Wells drove in four, LeMahieu came up with a big two-out hit, and both De los Santos and Leiter did yeoman’s work in relief (especially the former). The problem was that from the rest of the roster, only Cody Bellinger was in the grey area of “some good, some bad .” Everyone else—Ryan Yarbrough, Pablo Reyes, Ian Hamilton, Jasson Domínguez, Paul Goldschmidt, and event the likes of Aaron Judge—played poorly.
