LARAMIE — University of Wyoming senior Ryker Holtzen recently added to his long list of career accolades by qualifying for the first NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships of his career later this month.
Holtzen automatically qualified after finishing third in heat one of the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the NCAA West preliminary May 30 in College Station, Texas, stopping the clock in a personal-best 8 minutes, 34.95 seconds.
The run was the eighth-fastest when combing times from all three heats, and ranks 20th in the nation this season. It also surpassed his previous school record of 8:35.70 set April 4 at the Stanford Invite.
“(UW Coach Scott Dahlberg and I) changed things up a bit this year,” Holtzen said. “We kept the volume up and didn’t taper training as much. It kept things fa
