Deep Purple fans have been left in awe after discovering the fascinating backstory of one of the band's most iconic tracks. The London-based rockers, famed as part of the "unholy trinity" of British hard-rock in the 70s alongside legendary bands Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, have a rich history dating back to their formation in 1969.
Over the years, Deep Purple has experienced numerous line-up changes. However, it's the renowned "Mark II" line-up, consisting of Jon Lord, Roger Glover, Ian Gillan, Ritchie Blackmore and Ian Paice, that is often most celebrated.
This quintet was responsible for four hit Deep Purple studio albums, producing a plethora of epic songs still revered today.
Among these albums is the 1972 classic, Machine Head, which kicks off with the track, Highway Star.
