CHICAGO -- Politics weighed heavily on the minds of American Medical Association (AMA) members and officers Friday as they opened the annual meeting of the AMA House of Delegates .
"For those of you expecting the usual humor from me, I'm sorry to disappoint you," outgoing AMA president Bruce Scott, MD, said in his final address as president. "Because tonight, you're going to hear from Angry Bruce."
"I think the times call for some anger because despite all the efforts of everyone in this room ... our healthcare system is failing in fundamental ways," continued Scott, an otolaryngologist in Louisville, Kentucky. "It's failing physicians, and more importantly it's failing our patients."
