MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Memphis Police identified a woman found shot to death in Colonial Acres on Wednesday.

According to MPD, 58-year-old Sonya Dates died in the shooting. Her car was also stolen. The deadly shooting happened just after 4:30 p.m. on Perkins Road. Police said Dates died at the scene. Her 2020 Chevrolet Camaro was later discovered.

Officers arrested 23-year-old Kerrien Dates in Jackson, Tennessee, and charged him with the murder. MPD would not immediately comment on the relationship between Sonya Dates and Kerrien Dates, but neighbors told FOX13 that Kerrien is the victim's grandson.

"I remember when they moved in. It was just him and his grandmother," one neighbor who did not want to be identified out of fear for his safety told FOX13. That neighbor said Kerrien was friendly
