Environment Canada warns of possible landspout tornadoes
A special weather statement has been issued for a broad swath of southern Manitoba, warning of conditions favourable for the development of funnel clouds on Sunday.
The alert applies to multiple regions, including Steinbach, Winnipeg, Portage la Prairie, Morden-Winkler, Selkirk-Gimli, and communities stretching east to the Whiteshell and north to Fisher River and Hecla.
Environment Canada says the atmospheric conditions, featuring weak rotation under rapidly growing clouds or weak thunderstorms, may lead to the formation of funnel clouds throughout the day.
These types of funnel clouds are usually not dangerous when they remain aloft, but if the rotation strengthens near the ground, they could intensify into weak landspout tornad
