OGDEN, Utah (ABC4) — The Weber County Sheriff's Office is mourning the loss of one its Police Service Dogs, K-9 Nova.

In a Facebook post by the Weber County Sheriff's Office on Sunday, the department announced that K-9 Nova passed away on Saturday, June 7 due to an unexpected medical condition, and was just shy of two years old.

K-9 Nova joined the Sheriff's Office in November 2024 and immediately began narcotics detection along side her handler, Deputy Nielsen. K-9 Nova was attending a narcotics detection certification course at the time of her passing, with the department adding that Nova showed "tremendous promise"
