Experts are shocked to find that the Dead Sea Scrolls are 50 to 150 years older than previously believed. This finding comes as artificial intelligence can date the scrolls without causing any damage to them.
In a new study published in the journal PLOS One , researchers have been able to narrow better the window of time the Dead Sea Scrolls were written. The ancient documents, discovered in 12 different Qumran caves beginning in 1947, are among the earliest writings of the Hebrew Bible. It is believed, based on previous dating techniques, that the texts were written between the third century BC and the first century AD.
