A married couple in their late 60s visited Miracle-Ear in Frederick a few months ago. Lindsey Gaines, a licensed hearing aid dispenser at the center, said she’s met many such patients over the years, but these two stood out.

The wife had a genetic disorder that caused progressive hearing loss. She’d tried many hearing aids over the years, but they no longer helped. She’d been told she needed a cochlear implant, but she didn’t want to have surgery. For the last decade, she’d been able to hear almost nothing.
