A Nelson County man was sentenced to five years behind bars for a charge of object sexual penetration during a hearing last Monday.

Presiding Nelson Circuit Court Judge Michael R. Doucette sentenced Austin James Truslow, of Shipman, to 25 years incarceration, 20 of which were suspended. Upon release, Truslow must be on two years of supervised probation.

According to the case information, Truslow was arrested on July 5, 2024, and originally charged with raping a woman while she was intoxicated. However, the charge was amended to object sexual penetration by force.

At the sentencing, both Nelson County Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Erik Laub and Truslow’s defense attorney, Cyndra Vanclief, alluded to Truslow’s regret for the crime.

“Truslow immediately showed remorse,” Vanclief said.
