Twenty-two Democratic governors, including Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, on Sunday issued a joint statement condemning President Donald Trump’s use of National Guard troops to respond to protests in Los Angeles.
The statement accused Trump of usurping the authority of state leaders to make decisions about National Guard actions in their states.
“President Trump’s move to deploy California’s National Guard is an alarming abuse of power,” the letter read. “Governors are the Commanders in Chief of their NationaL Guard and the federal government activating them in their own borders without consulting or working with state’s governors is ineffective and dangerous.”
