Running is a community.

That community was on full display at the Mickelson Trail Marathon and Half Marathon on Sunday.

There were 1,218 runners in the half marathon, and 4.5% of that group, or 55 runners, were from Gillette. This was tied with Sioux Falls for the second most of any city (Rapid City was No. 1, with more than 150 runners). For the record, Sheridan had 54 runners.

The runners ranged from as young as 14 years old to as old as 71. The fastest Gillette runner clocked in at 1 hour, 15 minutes and 40 seconds, good enough for third overall.

Additional shoutouts go to those who ran in the 5K and the marathon relay. And the brave runners who chose to run the full marathon deserve a shoutout as well. The half marathon course is a relatively easy one, as most of it is downhill. Bu
