MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Big changes are coming to one of Memphis' busiest roads.
Monday, crews will begin work on a long-awaited project to widen a stretch of Summer Avenue. At the moment, the road has two lanes in each direction and a center turning lane. Drivers described it as busy, bumper-to-bumper, and a daily headache.
"When traffic is coming and going, it's a mad house out here," said Rick Shelton.
Starting at 7:00 Monday evening, however, the road's going to get even tighter. According to the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT), traffic will be dropped down to just one lane in each direction, with temporary lanes and intersection closures along the way. The widening is part of a $69.4 million construction project aimed at easing congestion and making this stretch safer for ev
